The Lords work WILL Be Done

(Acts 5:21-26)

Think about Jonah. He tried to escape from doing the work of The Lord by running away to sea. Did he get very far? Nope! The Lord brought a storm down, threatening to sink the boat Jonah was on until the sailors threw him overboard to be swallowed by the great fish.

Even chains and locks could not hold the Lord's work back
Even chains and locks could not hold the Lord’s work back

The work of The Lord was going to be done and Jonah was going to do it!

How about Moses? The Lord talked with Moses and told him to go and speak to Pharaoh and that God would be with him to gain the release of the Israelites from their slavery. And Moses didn’t want to do it. He told The Lord to send someone else because he wasn’t a good speaker.

In the end God got angry at Moses and told him he would send his brother Aaron to speak but God would work through Moses. Once again, The Lord had a job to be done and it was going to be done and Moses was gonna do it!

And this lesson is shown again in this section of Acts.

The disciples had been locked away by the chief priests and the rulers of the Jews. On the day following the rulers all came together to judge the disciples for preaching in the name of Jesus and teaching the people. They called to the jailers to go and bring them before the council, but when the jailers went they found the jail locked, the guards in place but the prisoners had gone.

The leaders were perplexed wondering what could have happened to the disciples until one of them said the disciples were in the temple teaching and preaching as bold as brass!

The disciples had a job to do. They had been commissioned by The Lord to teach and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world and The Lord’s work WILL be done.

Prison doors, chains, guards or soldiers could not hold back the work of The Lord. They did not hold back His work then and they will not hold it back now.

When God created the heavens and the earth He put His plan in motion and it has been following His predetermined course since the beginning of time and it will not cease until the end of time. He chooses His people to do His work and gives them the gifts, energy, words, teachings and understanding to enable them to do His will and nothing will stand in the way of His work being done.

Look at those who oppose The Lord today. They think that God does not see and cast judgement upon them for their wrongdoing. They oppose His people and try to put them to shame. They are rejecting all the ways of righteousness and calling what God declares as evil to be good. What does God have to say about them?

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good. (Psalm 14:1)

This is exactly what we see in the world today who claim there is no God and do all they can in opposition to His will and His ways. In their corruption they are full of pride and arrogance and think they will not be caught and judged for their wrongdoing. But then the psalmist continues by saying in Psalm 14:4-5.

4 Have those who work evil no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God?

5 There they are, in great terror, where there is no terror! For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you; you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

The evil people may well oppose and seek to tear down and destroy the people of God and “eat them up as they eat bread.” However they will be shamed, scattered and put into terror and in spite of their worst efforts, The Lord will complete His work in according with His plan.

Just look at the state of the world today. All mankind is in fear at what is going on and no man has the answers to overcome the problems of the world today. The terrors that beset the world can be overcome if a person will look to The Lord. In Jesus Christ there are answers for He gives us understanding of what is going on to take away our fear.

The events of climate with earthquakes, tsunamis and so on we’re all announced and prophesied in the bible. The lack of love between mankind that we see born in prejudice, bias, terrorism were all announced in the bible. And the methods of finding peace and the way to overcome the things of this world are all defined in the bible.

This is the work of The Lord. To provide man with an escape from the things of this world and give him the freedom to live in peace in spite of those who say there is no God.

The Lord’s work WILL be done and His work is to bring people into His fold to give them release from all of the sins and issues of this life and to provide eternal life for those who will obey the will of God.

Will there be suffering? Yes there will just as the disciples suffered at the hands of the religious leaders and the worldly people in their time. Those who oppose God will oppose His people and there may be times when we suffer for the stand we make in Jesus Christ. It is to be expected. But the rewards and the outcome of a life in Christ, both here in this world and in the eternal life to come will vastly outweigh any suffering we may go through now.

So have this knowledge and mind among you. What we strive for is not of this life but we are working towards a life with God in Jesus Christ. And God will continue to do the work to build His church, and individually build His people in preparation for His kingdom. As for those who oppose Him, do not fear them. Pity them and pray for them in the hope that they may see the light and turn from their evil ways.
