(1 Timothy 5:24-25 – You Cannot Hide Anything From God)
God is often described as being all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever present. So, it stands to reason that you cannot hide anything from God.
And yet people try to hide from God. Many believe that He cannot see them and they can get away with anything. Then there are those who choose not to believe in the existence of God.
But still He watches and guides the comings and goings of all people. And you cannot hide anything from God as this scripture today makes quite clear. All things done by man, whether good or evil will be brought to light. This is the thrust of this verse today.
You cannot hide anything from God – Especially Sin
Before continuing, let us take a look at the verses under review today.
24 The sins of some men are conspicuous, pointing to judgement, but the sins of others appear later. 25 So also good deeds are conspicuous; and even when they are not, they cannot remain hidden. (1 Timothy 5:24-25)
The first section of this scripture tells us that the sins of all people will be found out. Some are conspicuous and obvious as they can be seen in the actions of the perpetrators. Those are the ones plain to see, and as the scripture states, they point immediately to judgement.
But then there are other sins that people try to hide. Sins like adultery or theft where they don’t want to be caught. These are sins that are done in a clandestine and hidden fashion.
But they will be found out as they can’t help but be found out because you cannot hide anything from God, and He will bring these to light.
Adulterers will change they way they behave towards their marriage partner. They will show signs of something different and wrong. There will be indicators that all is not right, and in due course the sins will come to light and the marriage is destroyed.
Likewise theft will be immediately apparent when items are discovered missing. The missing items will trigger a search and eventually the thief will be caught and dealt with.
It is simply impossible to hide such blatant and obvious sins, even from other people. But even more, you cannot hide anything from God.
If we consider other forms of evil that a person might be entangled with. Think of sins that are personal where only the one person is involved. Even these will be found out.
Consider those people who have a fascination with pornography. No-one else may be involved with their sin, but they are still found out. A person may hide such things from people for a time, but you cannot hide anything from God and He will bring to light the evils of mankind.
You cannot hide anything from God – Even Good Deeds
The other side of the coin is described in the second verse of this scripture. You cannot hide anything from God, and that includes good deeds as well.
Perhaps today it is even more difficult to hide good deeds because they are so uncommon. There is a coldness in much of mankind, and neighbourly love is sadly lacking.
But it still exists. When someone helps somebody else for no reason other then to be helpful and expecting nothing in return, it is a good thing.
In days gone by, helpfulness was an attitude that was trained into people. There were organisations such as the Scouts and Girl Guides associations that trained young people to be considerate and helpful towards others. Sadly, these organisations do not have the influence they once had.
Likewise, the church used to be a central part of the lives of many people. The church was part of the social scene in many towns and cities, and it was a place where people learned the ways of the Lord. They learned the value and importance of service and to “Love your neighbour.”
But again the influence of the church over day to day life and morals has declined in recent years and decades.
These perhaps form the reasons why people are often surprised when someone helps out or does good deeds towards others. It has become more unusual these days, especially in a society that seems to follow the motto of, “What’s in it for me.”
But when good deeds do occur, they do get rewarded. Even if they go unnoticed by other people, you cannot hide anything from God.
The Bottom Line
When all is said and done, you cannot hide anything from God. There is nothing outside of His purvey and He deals with people according to what they do.
To those who do evil, He is the judge and will judge their actions appropriately.
But for those who do good, He will reward them with good things, the greatest of which is life in His kingdom.
God sees and knows everything that we humans do on this planet. He will judge those who do evil and He will reward those who do good.
There is no escaping the sight or judgement of God because you cannot hide anything from God. There is no point even trying because anywhere and everywhere you might try to go…He is there.
So, do good and receive His reward and His blessing. But if you do happen to sin, repent and turn to God for forgiveness and aim to not sin again. He will show mercy and compassion to those who come to Him in earnest, seeking repentance.
But don’t try to hide your sin. It will be found out and it will be judged because you cannot hide anything from God.
