Where will you find wisdom and knowledge?

(Colossians 2:1-4)

If ever there was a time when wisdom and knowledge were required, it is now.

The world today is awash with information and data more so than at any other time in history. But that is not the same as wisdom and knowledge. And besides, much of the data and information is neither wisdom or knowledge but is lies, mistruths, and intellectual junk food designed to mollify, entertain, and numb the minds of the masses.

So that brings us back to the burning question that needs to be answered today: Where will you find wisdom and knowledge?

Wisdom and Knowledge

The scripture I am looking at today is quite clear.

1 For I want you to know how greatly I strive for you, and for those at La-odice’a, and for all who have not seen my face, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love, to have all the riches of assured understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, of Christ, 3 in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I say this in order that no one may delude you with beguiling speech. (Colossians 2:1-4)

It’s clear from this that ALL the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden and may be found only in Christ Jesus.

It is not in great learning. It’s not in universities. It is not in schools of theology. It isn’t in the books and writings of men. Nor is it in philosophy and nor is it in any of the other religions of the world that falsely claim to provide insight, understanding, and enlightenment.

Searching for the wisdom and knowledge of man is a waste of time because they do not lead to true understanding, and in many cases they are false and lead only to death.

But the true wisdom and knowledge lead to life, and the only place we will find life is with God, in and through faith in Jesus Christ.

This is the truth. Jesus Christ is the life and in Him is the life of mankind.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:4-5)

What is the point of wisdom and knowledge if it does not ultimately lead to life?

All the wisdom and knowledge that comes from and through man and is of this world will never lead you to life. Although there are many who claim otherwise, which leads us to the next part of this post.

Beguiling Speech

The last verse of this section today is a warning. We are warned to beware that we are not deluded by beguiling speech. That is, that we are not suckered by smooth words and slippery talkers.

Sadly there are many people taken in by con-artists and scammers today. But that is not the worst of it by a long shot.

In the world there are many who actively oppose the teachings of Jesus Christ. They erect arguments against the truth of the gospel and reject Jesus Christ and God.

But when these arguments and philosophies are examined under the microscope of God’s word, they are like a house of cards. One puff of the wind of truth and they all fall down.

It is sad that so many have been fooled by these arguments. Take for example the theory of evolution.

Note that it was always called a theory by Charles Darwin, and it is still just a theory today. But it is taught and accepted as fact when there is no evidence to support it, and much to prove it false.

What is a theory after all? It’s just an hypothesis that needs to be tested with objective evidence to see if it holds up or should be rejected. And the theory of evolution is exactly that: an unproven hypothesis.

So why is it accepted as fact? Because the only alternative is Creation and that means those opponents of God would have to accept that there is a God.

Is it possible to prove the theory of evolution? No, it isn’t.

It is based upon a lie that says every species evolved from a single cell and then transformed over time to the diverse varieties of plant and animal life that we see today. But the theory falls down on several levels. Here are a couple just for a start.

According to the latest and best estimate of scientists there are 8.7 million unique species on earth, plus or minus 1.3 million.

Now add to that the best estimate of the age of planet earth, which is about 4.54 billion years.

If we make a wild assumption and say the first single cell amoeba that appeared on the earth came about on Day 1 of the earth’s existence (yes, I know…it’s highly unlikely), then on average there would have to be a new species appear every 522 years to have 8.7 million species today.

BUT…and it’s a BIG but, scientists have identified that the explosion of life on planet earth occurred predominantly in the Cambrian period, which started about 541 million years ago and lasted for a period of between 13 to 25 million years. During that period virtually all of the life we know of today came into being.

So that really shortens the evolutionary time-frames down significantly, to the point where they could not have occurred. Evolutionists talk about extremely long periods of time for different species to evolve, but if almost all of the 8.7 million life forms first appeared in the Cambrian period, then there would have to have been a new species appear every 1.5 to 2.9 years.

Hardly the long time-frames supported by evolutionists! The likelihood of one species transforming or spinning off a new species every couple of years seems less than likely if not impossible.

Then let us add the second simple piece of evidence that utterly shatters the theory of evolution.

The basis of the theory is that for every new species there is a transitional species as one form transitions to a new form. This is the “missing link” that men have searched for between mankind and the apes ever since the idea was first proposed.

But it’s more than just one “missing link.” For evolution to hold water there would have to be a transition phase or a “missing link” between EVERY species that has existed. In fact there should be so many of these transitional “missing links” that archaeologists would be tripping over them!

How many have actually been found? None. Not a single “missing link” between any species and another has ever been found because they don’t exist.

But the truth can be found in God and in Jesus Christ, who embodies all wisdom and knowledge. In fact He explained how it all took place in the first few chapters of Genesis, and it was definitely NOT like evolution.

Beguiling the church

But while that is all interesting, the real issues come where beguiling speech and a lack of wisdom and knowledge has infiltrated the teachings of the church.

The Lord and the Apostles throughout the Bible warn Christians everywhere to watch out for false teachers and false prophets. They have come into the church with beguiling speech and drawn people away from listening to the truth of the gospel. Instead they feed people on teachings of philosophy and “feel-good” ministry that indulges the flesh rather than teaching the spirit.

And that is why each person must seek and search for themselves. The truth is there to be found, but in many places it is almost buried under the muck and mire of false doctrine, even teachings that many Christians readily accept as gospel truth, but were never taught by Jesus or the disciples.

You and I have to read the Bibles for ourselves and seek the Lord in prayer to show us the fullness of the truth.

And the fullness of the truth will be found in only one place. All wisdom and knowledge can be found and exists only in Jesus Christ. So come to Him seeking and He promises you will find the truth.
