Who Was The Creator?

(John 1:1-5)

In these first few verses of John we find the answer to this question. There are many who have different opinions about this, but it is quite clear in this section of scripture who was the real creator of the heavens, the earth and everything in and on them.

Yes there Is a Creator

There are many who do not believe there was a creator of the heavens and the earth. Non-believers believe it is irrational to believe such a thing and consider those who do believe it to be crazy or a bit soft in the head. Let’s look at the rationality of it for a moment.

Non-believers generally accept the big bang as being how it all started. But what was there before the bang? Where did the base elements come from that went bang? Something must have existed prior to the bang, and it must have come from somewhere. Someone or something must have created the stuff that everything is now made from. Is it rational to consider the stuff was “just there?” or is it rational to say that if it was there that it just sort of went bang without any intervention? Is it rational to believe the complexity of life and everything that exists in those universe just happened?

So Who was the Creator?

Well John 1:1-5 says:

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Verse 3 says that all things were made through him and without him nothing was made. The “him” we are referring to is the Word. And later on we discover that the Word is Jesus.

Jesus was the Creator of all that we see. He was and is the Word and if you recall Genesis, nothing was created until the Word spoke saying, “Let there be light…” or whatever.

In Him was Life

So not only is Jesus the Saviour of the world, he created it in the first place. He did this work in conjunction with the Father. We see in the first verse that the Word was with God and the Word was God. They are not one and the same, but they existed together as Father and Son. And now they are inviting us into the family through Jesus Christ.

In Christ Jesus, who is the Word, we have life and his life is the light of men. He created and gave man life in the first place when he created man, and now he gives us life anew through the redeeming power of his death and resurrection.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Suffice to say that the light of knowledge that we have shines because of Jesus Christ. The light that keeps us from darkness came through Christ and he will lead us to life eternal with him as we obey his teachings and his words.
